Based on the hit West End musical 'The Sound of Music'. Five fun-filled days of ballet, tap, modern/jazz, musical theatre, choreography, prop and scenery making, culminating in a performance for family and friends on the final day.
During our arts and craft session we made the whole backdrop of the hills and decorated it with the puppet goats. For the Abbey scene we made stained glass windows which hung across the stage and looked magnificent! We also decorated 'girls in white dresses' cookies complete with blue satin sashes - they looked and tasted really nice!
The groups were divided into Seniors and Juniors, with everyone in each group learning and performing in at least 3 dances and an acting piece!
The Junior group danced a ballet piece to 'My Favourite Things' by The Sound of Music and a tap piece to 'So Long, Farewell' by The Sound of Music - some of them had never done tap before and were brilliant! For a more funky jazz dance they danced to 'The Club is Alive' by JLS. All their dances were superb and they worked really hard throughout the week.
The Senior group danced their tap piece to 'Wind It Up' by Gwen Stefani including a solo by Mollie and a freestyle rhythm at the end and the music to their jazz piece was 'My Favourite Things' by Big Brovas. They danced one of their ballet pieces in the opening scene of the show which included many of them singing solo pieces to 'Maria'. Their other ballet piece was 'The Waltz' ballroom scene in The Sound of Music.
All the cast came together to sing 'Do-Re-Mi' with a solo sung by Eleanor at the beginning and singing in two canons. Aimee sung a solo in 'Edelwiess' with a dance performed by Lottie, Jocelyn and Helen. The show was tied together with the acting scenes performed by all the cast, well done to everyone for saying their lines clearly!
Pictures coming soon!!
